I’ve had some technology challenges ever since my home PC died last year and I went 100% Mac. The changeover, and resulting delay in getting my act together on the home tech front, resulted in two important changes:

First, because I didn’t have access to my iTunes music library (I’ll put a separate post up on that), I stopped listening to all my marketing, tech, science, political and humor podcasts. If it wasn’t already on my iPod or listenable through Pandora, I wasn’t consuming it.

Second, just because my work habits were interrupted, I stopped reading my RSS feeds. All those good blog posts from friends, news sources, pundits and otherwise smart people were being ignored.

Well, now I’ve fixed both of these, and I’m back and better than ever! What got me to resume consuming RSS was a little Air app called Snackr, which syncs with your Google Reader account beautifully and scrolls all of your headlines. I keep it running on my second monitor (too distracting for my main screen), and it works like a charm! Hello again all my blog friends!

Online Community Manager / Fundraising Coordinator
Temporary, 10-12 hours / week @ $18-25/hr.

A major international children’s health organization is seeking an online community fundraising organizer to help grow visibility for the group in the U.S. This would be a part-time, hourly position working approximately 10-12 hours per week. Salary is commensurate with experience, ranging from $18 to $25 per hour. Bonuses will be offered for meeting specific growth numbers. The position is temporary, and will run from now through March 30th, 2009, with the possibility for extension based on initial traction.

DESCRIPTION
The online community fundraising organizer’s primary task is to work with the children’s health organization on the execution of a U.S.-focused program to grow the organization’s online community and charitable contributions in 2009. The program focuses on using existing online communities and tools to grow awareness of and contributions to the organization.

A primary objective of the organizer will be to make progress toward a year-end fundraising goal, and for encouraging members to contributing to that goal.

To grow online visibility, the organizer will be provided several lists of organizations with which to explore the possibility of outreach, cooperation, inclusion in newsletters, inclusion in resource lists, etc. The organizer will be responsible for contacting those organizations and encouraging them to cooperate with the children’s health organization.

The organizer will also be responsible for managing the organization’s Facebook and LinkedIn presence. To support the growth of these groups, the organization will be conducting an email campaign to drive traffic to these groups—it is the organizer’s responsibility to interact with new community members to encourage further, ongoing engagement and recruitment of additional community members.

The organizer will be asked to provide input on other tactics for online visibility—it’s a great opportunity for someone who can add their own ideas for how to grow the community and donations.

REQUIREMENTS
To be successful, the organizer must have prior volunteer or paid community development and fundraising experience, preferably for health-related non-profit organizations. The organizer must have extensive knowledge of online social networks, including Facebook and LinkedIn. Strong organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently are important. A track record of successful community development and fundraising is desired. Experience with online multimedia content, including the ability to write blogs and microblogs, and to produce audio and video content is a plus. The organizer will not be provided a computer or Internet access and will be responsible for obtaining these. The organizer must be available by telephone during business hours. The organizer can work from home, or from offices located in Cambridge, Mass., though preference will be for individuals based in the Cambridge, Mass. area.

We’re looking for someone who is:

Passionate but discriminating about social media, fluent in “web 2.0? and a super-user of tools like del.icio.us, RSS, Flickr, YouTube, widgets, and blogs

Knowledgeable about children’s health issues

Organized and open-minded

Please send resume, cover letter and full list of URLs pointing to your online presence to Todd Van Hoosear:

Well, it turns out he came up about $120 short for the event. Could you contribute a few dollars to help him? I set up this ChipIn widget to make it easy:
